Can I switch routes without ending the voice session?
Yes. The live conversation can move between Direct, Codex, OpenClaw, and Hermes routes while the GPT Realtime voice session stays conversational.
What does the Companion do?
The free macOS Companion installs and manages the private bridge to your Mac, pairs iPhone by QR, checks route readiness, and exposes task and file status for supported computer routes.
Does Apple Watch work away from my iPhone?
GPT Realtime can work on Apple Watch over Wi-Fi or cellular. Computer-backed routes depend on the network route you configure; iPhone relay is used when the phone is nearby, while away-from-phone access requires an intentionally configured HTTPS route.
Where are my credentials stored?
Credentials entered on iPhone use iOS secure storage. The Companion keeps its configuration on your Mac and stores supported secrets in Keychain. You control the connected accounts and network routes.
Is the Mac Companion required for every feature?
No. It is optional for device-only live voice. It is required for Codex, OpenClaw, Hermes, Mac files, and other computer-backed work.
